What’s up with femme uke?

Hello friends! Femme Uke kind of understands tumblr!  Here is an update from your favorite band!!

The sisters of Femme  Uke have been separated by distance for about a year, but within that year we managed to record our first album! We’re working with Most Gross Records to release some cassettes and they are coming along swimmingly. They will hopefully be released in the next few months. In the meantime, we’re trying to work on diy cd cases and that takes awhile. We have a bandcamp where you can listen to all the hot traxx and we’re trying to figure out how to be grown-ups and have downloads.

The geographical gap is coming to a close in the next few months also! 1/2 of FU will be moving back to the pacific northwest and we have many plans for baked out jam sheshes and expanding our instrument repertoire. 
We want to write new songs about the following things:
street harassment
feeling okay in a panopticon patriarchal rape culture
farting
safe and freaky sex
feeling so crazy inspired by powerful grrlfriends in our lives
loving feeling gross and dirty and embracing your smelf (smell of your self. smell+self=smelf)
super heroines that fight oppression
and many more ideas that we hope to sculpt into punk rock slow jazzy crazy folky songs.


We also try to be conscious of our politics because we try to immerse ourselves into 4th wave radical intersectional feminist activism, creation, and heart. We are in solidarity with anti-racism, anti-oppression, anti-gender binary(hey continuum!), and other radical social theories and praxxis. But sometimes when it comes to making songs on our ukuleles, we just do it best when we write about body hair or drinkin’ beers.  We’re trying to bridge the gap of our personal theories and music, and it will come out. This is something, me, Ashley, thinks about a lot. Sometimes it’s easier on our heads and hearts to write songs about drinkin’ beers and orgasming than to analyze the white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.
